Copies of production data can be stored at a company’s own location. However, this option requires additional storage media, capable of storing all the data produced and used by said firm. This presents a financial consideration, as the required investment can make this approach unprofitable, as well as an increase in overall risk.
In cases of a force majeure, such as a fire or flood, there is a risk that the copy of the data is destroyed along with the original. Such incidents can prove to be catastrophic and can easily endanger a company’s continuation of business.
A simple, safe and cost-effective way of solving this problem is to keep a copy of the data in the data center. In this way, a greater degree of security can be achieved, while the security certificates and the known location of the data center itself guarantee that secrecy will be preserved.
